It's a New Season!: Essentials for the Fall

Happy Friday everyone! To say that I am as happy as a clam would be an understatement. Why you ask? Because as of yesterday September 22nd, the fall season is officially underway. This doesn't quite mean that we can pull out our fall boots and trench coats, but who says we can't be prepared. So in the spirit of proactiveness (word?), I dusted off (and unwrapped) some of my pieces for the fall. Get ready to see lots of green garments, colorful booties, and the recently re-incarnated bomber jacket

Outerwear:

As easy as it is to just throw on your favorite leather jacket (because let's face it...it's convenient and matches with EVERYTHING), a true fashionista has a couple of fall choice jackets in her arsenal. This is a time to make sure the wind stays outside, while also looking cool with minimalist colors and features. Many of my jackets follow suit with this, while differing in lengths and fabrics. I give you a few examples here:

Similar|Similar
The not so basic moto leather jacket, that creates a scarf of sorts when zipped up. I got this from JCPenney a few seasons back, but the updated leather jacket is everywhere for those of us who are sick of black (not!), or would rather something more than a vertical zipper.

This purple trench coat screams fall with it burgundy undertones. Trench coats are especially good for the rainy days (we know they're coming). The collard neck will be sure to shield you from Mother Nature's wet kisses.

Longline Cardigans/Vests

One of the best ways to be chic, unique, and comfortable all at the same time?! The long cardigan. Their usual flowiness makes it look like you tried, while the coziness makes you feel like you didn't have to try too hard. Score two for you! These babies are my literal go to for everything; running errands, going to work, laying around the house, etc.
Sweater: Forever 21+

 Bomber Jackets:

And on today's episode of Fashion History repeating itself, we have the Bomber Jacket, straight from the 90's. Those were the days. Contrary to my fashion musings when I was 14, the bomber jacket has come a long from its big, sometimes lifeless form. It now features fab colors (some even still come in that Pepto Bismol pink), and even more fabulous pockets. I was even able to score this silk one from one of my favorite boutiques,  Stacked Apparel
Satin Bomber

Shoes:

We definitely cannot forget the most important staple to any well put together fall outfit. Fall is the time where we pull out the high and mid ankle booties, as well as the wine, green, and beige colors.

Transitioning into Fall: Bye Summer '16-Casual Friday

Happy Friday everyone! As September rolls through, the days continue to become shorter and the leaves become darker. I tend to throw on items of clothing that match the season. In this case, I'm talking hues of dark green, oranges, reds, and brown. These colors give off a great sense of warmth of comfort during the transitional season of fall.

Today's outfit revolves around Ava & Viv, Target's trendy plus size collection for the full figured fashionista. The line features pieces between the $20-$50 mark. It's a long time coming for the super retail brand, as consumers began to complain about the lack of diversity in their clothing. Although this dress is summery, the hunter green reminds me of the fast coming fall weather. Their fall line is now in stores and on Target.com through October 2016. Good on ya Target!

Grecian Goddess

Hello everyone! I hope you all haven't missed me too much! My life has been pretty hectic, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of things.

My most recent fashion discovery was this gem of a dress. I foresee lots of wear out of this cotton ruched maxi dress from H&M. I love it for many reasons, two of the top reasons being the classic cut and elegant air.

This dress was actually a thrift find, making it an even bigger score in my book. Some more great features of this maxi is its ability to "transform" into an off-the-shoulder number. The original cut is just a normal scoop neck, but with the neck line being low, it was just a shift of the sleeves in order to create a sexier look. And the sleeves managed to stay "off" my shoulders!

I was also in love with the double slit on either side of the dress. They made for effortless versatility and allowed me to show off a little leg too.

With all of the many ways I can wear this, as well as its ability to hit ALL the right places, you'll definitely be seeing more of this soon!

Sunshine On a Cloudy Day

This week's weather has been a direct contrast to last week's warm breeze and sunny skies. There's been a lot of rain generously watering our grass and plants. I'm excited to actually have a spring season though. For anyone who's lived in the Poconos for an extended period of time, you know that we've had a Winter to Summer season shift. There's rarely an in between,so these mid temperature days are more than welcomed.
Find this floral skirt here

This week's outfit reflected the spring season, but still represented the cold rainy days we've been having with the warm blues and vibrant flowers that usually grow as a result of a plentiful rain.

This floral midi skirt if from the brand Bobeau. I got it form Bon-Ton at 30% off. Purchasing this skirt was one of the times where "try it on" definitely rang true. It has a lot of stretch to it that I wouldn't have known had I not trusted my gut and stepped into the fitting room. Also, I don't normally shop in Bon-Ton because the price tags turn me away, but I wasn't disappointed.

I paired the ensemble with this light wash denim top as well as these bright blue/green pumps from Lola Shoetique. Every year, the store sells pumps in all colors of the rainbow. Beware, they run a bit big. This pair is an 8.5 (my regular shoe size), and I still had some space in the shoe

OOTD: Accent Ahoy!

So we've all heard the saying. Black is the new black. We all love it. We all own it. And it can literally do us no wrong. Ever. Whether its pants, dresses, or outerwear, black is the golden child of my wardrobe and if I could, I would definitely wear it all the time. What's most fun about it is the ability to adopt free range when accessorizing an all black ensemble. It an opportunity to go CRAZY.

My black to black outfit featured some year ;round pieces that I paired together to create a sexy and sleek look that was perfect for the nighttime party I went to.

The base of my outfit is my run of the mill ASOS jumper. Its an easy on and off and it makes for nice clean lines, but also a black canvas for the accessories to come. My leather jacket has ultimately made another appearance, as the "spring" weather has broken into a mid 40's.

NOW for the accessories;

My clutch is from Rainbow shops a few years back. It was perfect for a night out, when there was little need for my huge tote bags with the never ending bottom.

My cheetah print booties made strutting and walking real easy! I scored these from Lola Shoetique a couple seasons back. The heel is a bit hunky and mild 4 inches, which added comfort to my outfit as well.

And check out that hand candy!1 If you know me well, you know that ring are by far my favorite jewelry item. People always ask me if I leave the stores with any rings, and (though begrudgingly) yes I do. I got these midi rings from Wish and Amazon.

How do you dress up your favorite black pieces? Leave a comment, outfit pic, or quip below. I love hearing from you!

OOTD: Transitioning into Spring

What a beautiful week it's been! It early March and we're already moving into gorgeous weather. Here in the Poconos, it was a cool and calm 65-70 degrees all week long! Still, we still got some pretty cool mornings, and windy rainy days. With the freezing rain turning into cool winds, today's outfit inspo was centered around transitional wardrobe staples, i.e the ones you can wear when the warm day doesn't turn out to be as warm as you were hoping. This is usually the time of year when we're stumped on what to wear. Let me help!

First up we have this mock denim top that I got from JCPenney's. While the sleeves are long and the shirt reaches me past my waist. the material is light, and the light "faux denim" look makes me think of spring. I also have a shirt similar to this in a darker denim wash. Both tops were $19.99.

Don't be fooled down at the bottom. This "pencil skirt" is actually a dress I owned, repurposed for the transitioning occasion. It features an additional lining underneath the dress, which makes the cool winds today more bearable.

My shoes are a couple season old from Lola Shoetique. These shoes are cupser comfy, and I love the embellished strap around the ankle. The shoe also features some different color combinations, as shown with the camel and black, which bring the outfit together as well as keeping it from being too boring or monotone.

I finished off the look with a camel hobo bag that I got from Rainbow a few years back. The color and free form back help to create a casual Sunday look that was both comfortable and weather apporpriate.

How do you transition from the winter into the spring? Leave a comment below. I love hearing from you!

OOTD: My Funny Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Today is the day to remind your loved ones how much and why you love them! It's not just for those with that special someone. Its for those who are looking to love themselves more completely and remind themselves to look themselves in the mirror on the other 364 days of the year, reminding themselves that they are "flawless".

Today's outfit inspiration came straight from how "mixed-up" I've been feeling this past week. I have gone through and surpassed a few trials and tribulations this week, and the mixed print theme just illustrated that I don't need to have it altogether to have it all. This ensemble is fire if I do say so myself! When I showed my mother my outfit today, she gave me this sideways stare. You see, back in her style days, everything had to match. From the shirt all the way down to the shoes. But in more recent days, I see more and more mixed prints and I absolutely love it!

This plaid top is form Old Navy, one of my favorite places to purchase basics and key pieces for your wardrobe. The red and pink scheme screamed Valentine's Day. It has a nice cozy feel to it, which made it all the more difficult to head outside in the -5 degree weather.

My skinny jeans are from Forever 21+. You can literally find these babies in a bunch of different washes, and I believe  paid about 11.80 for them. Forever 21 is also a good one stop shop for basic items. I always have to resist the urge to buy one of everything in each color.

Now, to mix things up a little but. These cheetah print booties are from Lola Shoetique. The heel is only a couple inches, making my needed Sunday comfort possible.

One of the most important things I do when mixing prints is find pieces that carry the same unifying color. Have fun with it! And remember not to think about it so much!

How do you mix prints? I'd love to hear form you!

Enjoy today's National day of Love!

Casual Friday: Glamorous Winter Gear

It's finally happened! A few inches of snow and ice in the Pocono have at last ushered our way into true winter fashion. I always laugh at the first snowfall because the conversations and Facebook statuses I hear and see are always amusing. 'Oh man, it's so cold outside'. Or even "It's a low of 10 degrees this morning.' I want to say to them, "Yes that happens in the winter."Those will be the same people who complain of the too humid weather. Be thankful for the highs and lows of his wonders and mercies. In the summer, I'll be happy to don my maxi skirts and gladiator sandals. In the dawn of winter, I'm just as happy to wear some great winter gear. I wouldn't want any of these things to take up dust.

The showcase item for this week's casual Friday are these one-of-a-kind glittering boots from Lola Shoetique. Speaking of taking up dust, I've been thinking about them since daylight savings when 4pm started to look like 6pm. They literally shine up the night and I'm happy I was able to unearth them from the piles of shoes I have to make this comfy cozy outfit. I got these some years ago, and only wore them once so they're in pretty god shape. They're a standard military boot that features lots and lots of GLITTER! I'm trying to calm down the adolescent fairy princess in me that got so excited when I first laid eyes on them a couple years back

Jail posing it! ;)
GLITTER!!!!!

. What better way to be glamorous in the winter than with heavy duty boots covered in glitter?! *swoon*

On top I have a cropped sweater form Victoria's secret I also got a couple of years back. Everyone know Vicky's for their panty sales and bras, but in my heavier catalog shopping days, I was very surprised to know that they also sell some pretty good quality clothing items. They have everything form shirts to skirts to coats. (I'll get into that in another post) Another surprise is that their items go up to an XL in most pieces. This sweater was literally a grab it and go and it kept my outfit pretty chill, where the boots jazzed it up a bit.

Have you ever seen a trendy piece and said. "I don't know if I'm going to look good in that." WELL, later for that noise! As a treat to myself for losing a whopping 65 pounds this year, I ventured into the territory of distressed/ripped denim and I couldn't be happier. I got these from one of my favorite IG boutiques right now, Hautelifeplus. Word to the wise on these, they stretch to epic proportions! So order a size down because they're very forgiving to us sisters who are "hippier".

How do you glam up for the winter? Share a comment, quip, or picture below. TGIF!

Repetition is Key

Repetition- (n.) the recurrence of an action or an event.

When it comes to my fashion choices this is one of my favorite words. I repeat slot of staples in my closet because why not? For me,it's not just about dressing up. It's about how I felt at the moment. And those different moments call for a different top with the same jeans,a different shoe with the same dress,or that favorite sweater with...everything.

On today's list of repeats we have my floppy hat in burgundy. This hat is super versatile! Besides the vibrant color,it literally dresses up everything. I've worked  it with maxi dresses, bathing suits, a pair of jeans...you name it! And if you just twist it the tiniest bit you add a bit of sultry to any outfit too. I wore it a few months back in the summer with this Aztec tribal dress from
Haute life plus. The hat is perfect all year around. Protecting me from the rain and sun.

This mustard yellow top is from H&M  that I got some years back. It has a high low effect, which makes the bottom options nearly endless. I tucked it in this morning (my first time doing so) and I instantly found a new way to wear it. The top has a sweater feel to it,but it's kind of thin. I threw a  leather jacket over it and I was good to go.

Now normally I don't match my hats or shirt with my shoes, but I couldn't resist. The burgundy with the mustard yellow was a great combination. The booties are a tiny 4 inches so it practically felt like I was wearing flats.

Repeating my fashion choices allows me to be thankful for the things that I have and the many ways that I can use them. Your shopping budget doesn't need to be extensive in order be fashion forward. It's all about being creative. Recycling isn't only good for the Earth. It's good for the pockets. Now excuse me while I go find some more gems in my closet I might have forgotten about.

Brieana
