Casual Friday- June 24,2016

Happy Friday! Today's hot and hazy weather called for short sleeved and open toes. My spotlight items this week is this body -con midi dress from Forever 21+ and these fringed gladiator sandals. Both items together made for a chic and comfortable Friday outfit, made for running errands.

My dress from Forever 21+ is a few seasons old, but some variations of the dress are available on the store's website. I love the dress for it super light material that reduces the sweat and hot flashes of a 95 degree summer day. The length is also perfect for the hot fay. Not too long, not too short.

My fringed gladiator sandals come from my favorite small business owner at Step N' Out on Faith Shoe Salon. These shoes are truly one of a kind. I've seen fringed heels, and I'v also seen gladiator sandals, but I cannot say I've seen both! These can easily be dressed up or down, adding to their versatility and comfort! I was fearful that my calves wouldn't fit in these, but the semi-stretchable straps helped me out. And even at full stretch, I still had some space. SCORE!

My flannel shirt is a thrift find from the Salvation Army. Increased the casual!

How's everyone's Friday going? What are you wearing? Let's see it!

OOTD: Corporate Sunday

The dress code at my job is business casual .I've always though that to be one of the most ambigious terms within the workplace that I've ever come upon. My first question is always.. "what does that even mean?" I say that because sometimes I feel business...most of the time I feel casual. And if I casual decide to throw on a pair of flip flops with these khaki pants...am I wrong? This was the conversation running through my head as I threw this outfit together, because in an alternate world, I would wear something like this to work. Putting the cropped top and lightly tapered woven pant together created a "casual" work look, along with the dramatic cat frame that screamed, "How can I help you today?" in the most corporate way possible.

My textured crop top is form Forever 21+. I got in during a really big clearance sale for about $10. What's funny is, the model in the picture had it paired with these navy blue linen pants (also on clearance!). So I guess you could say Forever 21 provided a little Sunday outfit inspo for me. I paired the rather straight-up look with some dramatic accessories, including these frames (prescription not included) from Charlotte Russe. That's our little secret. Everyone I saw yesterday thought I bought a new pair of glasses.

My corpoate not-so-fancy Sunday look rose a really big question for me; what's acceptable as "business casual?" I think there's a post coming soon .

Just another thickums rocking a crop top ;)

OOTD: Detailed Skirts

Good evening all! As the warmer weather approaches, I've pulled out some of my favorite skirts from the past few years. I'm not much of a dress wearer (unless in special occasions), but skirts allow me to dress up or down, while still bringing a feminine allure to any outfit. This particular skirt is from a few years ago at Forever 21+. It features some tribal yellow print details, and some slits on each side that reach up to the thigh area. The skirt features an elastic waist, which makes tucking a shirt in really easy and seamless. I paired it with my distressed jeans jacket, also Forever 21+. My fringed purse is from H&M, and I finished it off with my chunky heel from Charlotte Russe for an ultimate boho chic Sunday look.

You'll be seeing plenty of skirts from me in the weeks to come. Let me know what your preference is. Long? Shirt? Mini? Maxi? I love hearing from you!

Casual Friday: Feminine Camo

Similar jeans here and here.
I know...I know you read that title and thought "That was the biggest contradiction ever." But bear with me! Because since starting up this blog, I have learned that visions in your mind can ALWAYS be done in fashion. There is no idea too whimsical or a combination too out there...make it happen. And that I did. Today's outfit is centered around this camo jacket I got from Rose Gal, another online marketplace that specializes in reduced prices of the latest trends and pieces. I set my eyes on this jacket for a number of reasons. 1. It's a light-to-midweight jacket perfect for the spring rains and winds 2. The camo design is truly one of a kind. That might be reasons 1-5,but you ge my drift. The flowers within the camo design add a feminine touch to the casual outfit, without having to add heels. I was running errands and this woman said "I love camo. That's pretty much all that's in my closet, but I've never seen anything like that. It's girly." Thank you ma'am. That's exactly what I was going for. If you haven't figured this out about me by now, whether I am in sweatpants or stilettos, many things with me have to be comfortable and have a feminine air about it. This jacket achieved both!.Check out my Polyvore page for some outfit inspiration on this piece.

My layered chain leckace is from Wish.com. After some concentrated minutes of de-tangling and fixing, I was able to wear this necklace to add an even softer look to the military and camouflage colors.

My boots are from one of my favorite small business owners who I did a spotlight on a few months back. These boots made it possible to head back into the grass for a different backdrop than  what you guys are used to. The gold toe is still my favorite feature. Who doesn't love a gold toe boot?! These cost me about $50. They're super stretchy and they have a zipper on the side that makes it easy access. The shoelaces in the front are practicallyfor show!

OOTD:Fringe Details

Today I was feeling a bit boho. Fringe details make me feel free, exotic, and open minded. It's my favorite. And it's making some major appearances at Spring Fashion week 2016,proving itself to also be a very daring look when done right.

Similar/Similar
I decided to go with a this poncho for a softer look. It's a cotton blend with some detailing across the front. This one came from Walmart. It was only a couple bucks. Underneath I have a cami from Forever 21. It's a satin/rayon blend that doesn't have as much stretch as a normal Cami. I matched it with these pumps from Charlotte Russe.

This tribal fringe inspired necklace is also from Forever 21. Here are some similar pieces here and here.
To finish off my fringed/distressed look, I threw on these jeans from Haute life plus. They're really stretchy,so when you order,go a size down.

Fringe is most definitely in. It's covering our purses, dresses, and even our shoes. My newest fringe addition will be featured in a post soon.

Do you have any fringe looks? Leave a comment, quip,or photo below. I love hearing from you!

Casual Friday: Fitness Friday-Plus Size Edition

I've been on a bit of a health kick lately. Well I guess you could say more than I normally am. I've been so proud of the fact that over the past 365, I've managed to lose over 65 pounds. It feels great mentally, physically, and emotionally. What's even better is the fact that I get to scout out cute new workout gear. Even while I'm sweating, I like to look my best.

These leggings are from ASOS Curve. They have a really great assortment of tights, hoodies, sweaters, and other active wear, although they don't actually call it that. What great about these leggings are the fact that the back of them are higher than the front, specifically for the plumper derriere. ASOS leggings normally run in even jeans sizes (10,12,14 etc), but they have lots of stretch, so no worries about ordering your normal size.

This pullover is from Old Navy. Anyone who enjoys a nice hoodie (winged, funnel neck, or tunic) should run to their nearest Old Navy. They literally always have a sale, so I can promise you'll get a good deal.

My sneakers are Adidas Performance Madison RNR running shoe. The pink cheetah print was a limited edition and I couldn't pass up the sale. These are the ideal workout/performance sneaker because of my flat feet. They make me feel light and airy. They're even good for running, on the off chance I decide to do so.

Below, I've made a collage of some of my essential workout tools. Click the Polyvore link at the bottom of the page. What are some of your chic shopping places for workout gear? Leave a comment below. I love hearing from you!

Casual Friday: Denim Layers

Today was definitely a day where I needed more than one layer of protection from the wind. I don't usually layer. It makes me feel bulky and like I have on too much clothing. But I found the trick to doing so is making sure that your layers aren't all so thick. Layering works well with light to mid weight materials, both of which I have here

I got this denim top from JCPenney's. It has a slightly distressed color on the sides. It's pretty lightweight, and isn't actually a jean denim top,but still does the trick

These jeans are from Forever 21+ and they're my favorite pair of jeans from them thus far. They're very stretchy and have some red/orange undertones. I had him mixing denim colors because...why not?

This open cardigan was a thrift find for about $4. It's from Hanes and the sweater/cotton material definitely protected me from today's harsh winds.

My boots are from an online catalog/shop named Alloy. They typically sell tween/in-between clothing items, but every once in a while I'm able to find something that fits just right.

How do you layer in the winter?Leave a comment below. I love hearing from you!

OOTD:Pretty In Pink

Today's outfit was an ode to Valentine's Day and one of my favorite
80's
chick flicks:Pretty in Pink. Pink is one of my favorite colors for various reasons:it's soft doting nature that instantly adds a bit of femininity to everything. It adds a Cinderella princess delicacy that my girl Molly Ringwald achieved in her outfits. No matter how you really feel  ,pink will have you looking your prettiest.

I accompanied  the outfit with this unique blazer I got from Rainbow. It's has a nice lace detail that's better suited for soft colors to compliment the fact the the entire back is see through.

I got this pink peplum top from Forever 21+,along with this necklace. It's actually my first time wearing it. On closer view ,the gems are more of a purple/pink color. But with the light pink peplum top,I was able to pull off a great coordination! Thank God for hues on top of hues!
These pink pumps are from a very unlikely place:Victoria's secret. I've featured some of their clothing before. I also have these pumps in neon yellow. It's a soft suede and very easy to scuff, which is why I had to wait until there was no snow around.

What colors make you feel pretty? Leave a comment below! I love hearing from you.

OOTD: My Funny Valentine

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Today is the day to remind your loved ones how much and why you love them! It's not just for those with that special someone. Its for those who are looking to love themselves more completely and remind themselves to look themselves in the mirror on the other 364 days of the year, reminding themselves that they are "flawless".

Today's outfit inspiration came straight from how "mixed-up" I've been feeling this past week. I have gone through and surpassed a few trials and tribulations this week, and the mixed print theme just illustrated that I don't need to have it altogether to have it all. This ensemble is fire if I do say so myself! When I showed my mother my outfit today, she gave me this sideways stare. You see, back in her style days, everything had to match. From the shirt all the way down to the shoes. But in more recent days, I see more and more mixed prints and I absolutely love it!

This plaid top is form Old Navy, one of my favorite places to purchase basics and key pieces for your wardrobe. The red and pink scheme screamed Valentine's Day. It has a nice cozy feel to it, which made it all the more difficult to head outside in the -5 degree weather.

My skinny jeans are from Forever 21+. You can literally find these babies in a bunch of different washes, and I believe  paid about 11.80 for them. Forever 21 is also a good one stop shop for basic items. I always have to resist the urge to buy one of everything in each color.

Now, to mix things up a little but. These cheetah print booties are from Lola Shoetique. The heel is only a couple inches, making my needed Sunday comfort possible.

One of the most important things I do when mixing prints is find pieces that carry the same unifying color. Have fun with it! And remember not to think about it so much!

How do you mix prints? I'd love to hear form you!

Enjoy today's National day of Love!

Brieana

Casual Friday: Traveling Prints

Happy Friday and Happy February. And what a windy one it is! This past week, our favorite groundhog poked his head out of his home and said "early spring". Well,he didn't actually say that (because that would be weird), but age old tradition says that no shadow means less winter. That revelation inspired me to bring out some of my  cute accent pieces that normally jazz up a rather ho-hum ensemble.
This traveler's hat is from ASOS. I love the gold accents on the hat the wide brim protected my eyes and ears from the wind. Hats are always on the small side for my head, but my braids help. Big head, bigger brain I always say.

I got this scarf from my sister. It wasn't a gift, I took it. And I love it.! It's not your run of the mill cheetah print, I love that it has mixing of the yellow into the tan colors. Its such a fun scarf, and I don't really love scarves.

What are some of your favorite "fun additions"? Leave a comment below!

OOTD: Major Blazer

We all have our problem areas. Too skinny legs. Thunder thighs. Knocked knees. My personal problem area are my arms. When I work out (consistently) they'll be the last thing to shrink. For the life of me I can't figure out a formula for ripped arms. With that being said,it's a trying task to find fitted items of clothing that fit my arms. Blazers are especially difficult, so when I find one that works,I care for it like a small child and make a mental and physical note of where I got the item. The right blazers don't come by easily for us plus sized girls, similar to the difficulties of wearing sky high heels. When we do find the right arm fit,the rest normally lacks in fit. Thankfully,I was able to score both fit and flare from this blazer I got from Forever 21. They have a wonderful assortment of fits and colors.

My struggles have inspired me to look for some of the best (and cost effective) blazers and jackets. Below are some of the places I've found fantastic blazers for awesome prices. We are all shaped a bit differently, so when in doubt, find a good tailor. Keep in mind arm lengths and button placements. You too can perfect the #1 layering piece!

Department stores (Macy's JCPenney's, Nordstrom)

OOTD: Tribal Prints

Good evening everyone! I just want to start this post off by saying I'm happier than a clam at this beautiful and breathtaking backdrop. I know most of us don't like the work of shoveling, slipping, and falling due to the snow, but I truly enjoyed the lazy Saturday I had watching it fall and then (dare I say) going out and "playing in it" later that evening. Of course, by playing in it, I mean shoveling all 16 inches, but those are the breaks when you're an adult. I enjoyed snowstorm Jonas, and as someone said to me today, "If its January 24th and this is our 1st snowstorm, we have a lot to be happy about." Truer words have never been spoken.

I own few tribal prints in my wardrobe, and one of the reasons for that is mainly because I always though they were too busy and I wasn't sure how to tone them down. I then learned that they didn't need to be toned down and that I should allow them to be its natural self. And breathtakingly so. I scored this wrap from Forever 21 Plus a while back. It has a fringe effect on the sleeves and its a very nice cotton blend. The wrap feature allows me to either wear it open or closed. Naturally, for this shoot, I chose closed. I love you guys, but tomorrow is my first day at my new job, I can't afford another cold!

These high waist pants are from an IG boutique that's no longer in business. I'm happy I was able to get them before they shut down. The marled black mixed in with the burgundy red creates a nice two toned look. This pants are awesome because they not only have a nice high waist, the only zipper on them is in the back, which gives an even more slimmed down and neat look.

The necklace is from one of my favorite jewelry small business, Lindo Jewelry. They also came with a matching pair of earrings, but my new 'do made them tough to see.

Did you step out fashionably during snowstorm Jonas? I'd love to see it! Comment below,

Casual Friday: Sweats and Errands

Besides my trusty ACER laptop, this evening I'm armed with some orange juice,NyQuil, and a word to battle against this sinus infection that's attacking my eyes and ears! Being sick sucks, but the fabulous must continue to slay. I can do all things though Christ who gives me strength. And today,I had a slew of doctor's appointments to get myself together. And it wouldn't be a sick day if I didn't do it in sweats! Today's outfit featured all of my comfy cozy items "thrown" together to create this easy, yet not so breezy (chest cold beware) ensemble.

I got this sweater on clearance at Target. You know those racks as soon as you walk in the store? The ones that whisper "buy me"? Yeah those are the ones I frequent! Most of the items are on clearance,my 3rd favorite shopping word. The neck is a bit higher than the normal sweater, and the fabric has a very tight knit pattern, both things that I needed for my looming cold.

This leather jacket is one of my favorites and sadly,it will probably be the last time you all see it. If you haven't heard already, there's a big storm heading our way. And although it's warm,it's not warm enough for the likes of over a foot of snow. BURR! Either way,I scored this number from JC Penney's a few years back. Normally around the warmer summer months leading into the fall, they have outerwear GALORE for the low low! I couldn't have paid more than $25 for this number. The zipper isn't your run of the mill vertical up and down feature. This asymmetrical design makes for such cute layering! Im sad to see it go for the winter.
These H&M harem sweats made for the perfect lazy day. They offered just enough design for me to look put together, though I didn't feel that way. I'm just excited I could throw on sweat pants and run errands while still looking chic. It can be done ladies!

My matching pumps are from Charlotte Russe. They're not as tall as my usual stiletto wear,so they assisted in the lingering fatigue that won't quit.

Today's outfit reminded me of one important lesson:you look as good as you feel! And not to toot my own horn but,the easiness of this outfit paired with antibiotics and lots of liquids sure helped me feel my best. So by that logic, I must look good too!

Until next time
Brieana.

OOTD: Cool Color Combos

Happy Sunday! I hope you're enjoying the days after Christmas and the time you've spent with cousins you haven't seen in years and eating foods you'll be giving up in a few weeks.

Today I want to talk about amazing combinations. Items that are Perfect for one another.Things that you can't mention without their counterpart. Peanut  butter and jelly. Fish and chips. Cell phone and a charger. Wearing glasses and being smart. I'm not so sure about that last one but you get the point. Combinations can add pizzazz or add those finishing touches needed to make a meal or outfit great. One of my favorite color combos is gray and green. An olive or hunter green to be exact. There's something serene and relaxed about the two colors together that still scream sleek and sheek at the same time.

This long wool duster is from Forever 21+ a couple seasons back. And I promise it's not as itchy as it looks. I know dusters are in for the season, and while I love them, not all of them are as thick as I need them to be. I'm ALWAYS cold,so this sweater keeps me warm. The marled effect adds some extra color to the outfit.

This midi dress is also from Forever 21+. I got it in the summer and quickly learned it was more suited for the colder months. There's an additional lining inside of the dress that adds more warmth. During the hot and hazy summer, this was NOT BBQ attire. In the winter, the extra layer helped to create nice, clean lines and layers that kept me warm. The length was also a plus as it was kind of windy today.

If you couldn't tell already, I love a chunky heeled bootie. These ones from Charlotte Russe gave me the right amount of balance. My mom looks at me in shock every time I step out in something higher than 6 inches. It's my way of keeping the day exciting. High heels, higher standards. The suede material may not be the best when the snow starts to fall,so I'm wearing them before that time comes.

Last but not least, let's talk about this  eye candy around my neck. This necklace is a unique and handmade creation from a local store owner here in the Poconos. She'll get her own post soon, but check out her Facebook page here. The intricate design (check out those leaves!) was just what I needed to add some excitement to the otherwise quiet ensemble.

What are some of your favorite color combinations? Leave a comment below!
