Working for the Weekend:Countdown to B-Day* MINI LOOKBOOK INCLUDED*

Happy Monday folks!  I hope you all enjoyed your weekend as much as I did. It was a busy one for sure. This past Sunday, I was able to celebrate another year of life. My 26th birthday weekend was full of celebrations and of course some shopping along the way. It's a blessing when your work is so much fun. I've decided to run down my looks for running errands, a ladies only brunch, a sexy ensemble for a night out. and my sophisticated look to bring in B-Day a.k.a my birthday.

Up first we have this casual Friday look, featuring this super fun leather jacket from Ashley Tipton's plus size line through JCPenney. The first time I saw this jacket on one of my favorite bloggers, I knew I had to have it. It's not your run of the mill leather jacket. It features a mesh/tulle blend, adding 100% femininity to the jacket. Not to mention all of the rose gold button and zippers.

Underneath, I wore this marled knit sweater form Forever 21+, with distressed thrifted denim jeans. Complete with mid length combat boots, and you have an outfit fit for running around ALL day. Fashionable and functional!

On to Saturday, where I opted for dresses all day. I always hear people talk about how much work dresses are, but I think dresses are a go-to when you don't feel like picking out two separate pieces of clothing, and they add a chic detail to whatever you're doing.

My day dress was a sweater dress that was also thrifted. The ribbed detail and moccasin booties helped me to not feel too dressed up.

My night dress was a last minute find from the racks of Charlotte Russe. I suaully walk past Charlotte Russe when I'm low on funds, because their sales are to shop till you drop for! This entire outfit (sans shoes) was $35!!! YES you read that right. This mauve/blue ruched number was 50% off, as are ALL of their dresses, and I had to pick up some jewelry (2 for $10). I didn't regret wandering in this time around.
Entire outfit: Charlotte Russe

Last but not least, we have my birthday ensemble. I wanted to go with something a bit more toned down and "grown up" for this occasion, and I immediately thought "bow tie". Because I didn't want it to look too boyish, I opted for this velvet wrap from H&M, which I then fashioned into a bow tie, that way I was able to use it again. My burgundy strap heels are from GoJane. I scored them for an easy $19. The rest of the outfit was thrifted. I have to be more wise about my spending habits after all, I'm a year older!

OOTD: Turtlenecks and Faux Denim

As I continue to embark on this fashion blogging journey, I'm really enjoying getting to know more and more about fabrics. Today, for instance, I had the privilege (yes, it's that serious) of donning these faux denim "slacks" from Target's Merona. They were amazing in the area of comfort. Yes, they LOOK like they're a jeans material, but when I slid them on I was met with a choir of angels as the SUPER soft material wrapped my thighs in a warmth only these material could deliver. To the touch, its almost as soft as cashmere. It pretty wrinkle resistant to (I may have just gotten luck on that front.)

So what is this magic fabric, you ask? It's called Lyocell, Because it is made from a plant material, it is cellulosic and possesses many properties of other cellulose fibers, such as cotton, linen, ramie, and rayon - another manufactured but non-synthetic fiber. In many ways, lyocell is more similar to cotton than it is to rayon.Lyocell is similar to that of Modal, another "wonder fabric" that has all the benefits of natural fibers, leaving you with an incredibly soft texture, similar to that of silk.

These slacks were definitely a challenge to style. Do I dress it up? Do it play it down? Don't worry, you'll definitely see more of these as I try it out. They're too warm and comfy not to.

Transitioning into Fall: Stripes and Cape Vests

Since I started my blog in December, I've really gone through some growing experiences. I've grown in patience. I've grown in confidence. I've grown in style. But most importantly, I've grown outside of the lines. What I put together for today's fall fashion outfit is something I would have never done in a million years before, and I mean the loud stripes as well as all the colors! But in using this platform, I've stepped out of the box a number of times...and look forward to doing it again and again.

Today's mixed colors/fabrics/everything style started with this diagonal striped shirt I got from a friend. When she handed it to me, the pre-blogger Brieana was like "what am I going to do with this shirt?", while the blogger babe said aloud "I have the perfect outfit for this shirt". Even in that moment of fighting off my inhibitions to be "tame", "in-the-box", and "normal", the Brieana you've all come to know reared her head and told me to take the top. I'm so glad I did.

I paired it with this suede sleeveless vest from Wish.com, my new place for cheap finds and staple items. Yes, I know, they are definitely a hit or miss when it comes to quality, but I can tell you all about how to spot a good look item. Check out this blog post on my tips and tricks. I love this vest for its paneled theme (perfect for keeping out the wind) as well as the soft suede that managed not to be 10 inches thick.

I donned these low pumps from Charlotte Russe I got on clearance in a nice dusty orange color. Paired with my afro puff, it was a regular fall day for me! Hanging right outside the box!

OOTD: Easy Street

Happy Monday! I hope you're all enjoying your Independence Day with a nice burger,or just a well deserved day off.  My outfit yesterday was simple in throwing on,but chic and effortless in design. Anyone that knows me knows that I love a good jumpsuit. They're not the easiest to find,so when I do, I'm quick to pick one up! This beige number is from my favorite quick stop shop,Rainbow. It was one of the newer items they had in the store. I love the stretchy (and forgiving material) as well as the added plate belt that was included. The deep V made it easy for me to throw a nice statement necklace on. It was practically made for the space!

OOTD: Corporate Sunday

The dress code at my job is business casual .I've always though that to be one of the most ambigious terms within the workplace that I've ever come upon. My first question is always.. "what does that even mean?" I say that because sometimes I feel business...most of the time I feel casual. And if I casual decide to throw on a pair of flip flops with these khaki pants...am I wrong? This was the conversation running through my head as I threw this outfit together, because in an alternate world, I would wear something like this to work. Putting the cropped top and lightly tapered woven pant together created a "casual" work look, along with the dramatic cat frame that screamed, "How can I help you today?" in the most corporate way possible.

My textured crop top is form Forever 21+. I got in during a really big clearance sale for about $10. What's funny is, the model in the picture had it paired with these navy blue linen pants (also on clearance!). So I guess you could say Forever 21 provided a little Sunday outfit inspo for me. I paired the rather straight-up look with some dramatic accessories, including these frames (prescription not included) from Charlotte Russe. That's our little secret. Everyone I saw yesterday thought I bought a new pair of glasses.

My corpoate not-so-fancy Sunday look rose a really big question for me; what's acceptable as "business casual?" I think there's a post coming soon .

Just another thickums rocking a crop top ;)

Blogger Chronicles: Memorial Day Weekend

Soooo,  Memorial Day has come and gone. And in the days that it's taken me to recuperate from a fun-filled weekend (at 25, I seriously cannot hang anymore), I've come up with an informal lookbook for my style choices while I was down in Hotlanta. There were some new pieces, as well as some well worn ones from the back of my closet. Either way, going from day-to-night was easy when everyone in the city was so fabulous. I didn't feel weird wearing a statement necklace or a pair of heels. It was all acceptable!

My first ensemble for the weekend was not your run-of-the-mill airport attire. I substituted the sweatpants and head scarf for something as equally comfortable in structure, but what left little to be desired in the style department. This asymmetrical skirt was similar in the ruched nature of this number I wore a couple weeks back. What I enjoyed most about it was its tye-dye color scheme, which screamed vacation. I was able to move through the hustle and bustle of airport terminals in comfort without compromising style.

I paired them with these bedazzled sandals from Lola Shoetique. These are a couple years old, but Lola, as I affectionately call them, always has loads of summer goodies. Check them out!

My night ensemble was a casual maxi dress outfit. I purchased this maxi dress from Forever 21+ about 3 years ago, and I haven't stopped wearing it since! As you guys can tell, I'm not a fan of wearing things just once or twice, and this was no different. The newest piece in this ensemble was this statement necklace I got form Charlotte Russe. I was able to get it within their typical 2 for $10 jewelry sale. You'll see the other item I purchased later.

Onward to Saturday! After recuperating from the first night in ATL, I was hesitant to wear anything about no inches off the ground, but I did it anyway. Besides, a wedge is pretty easy and sturdy wear. These corkscrew wedges were a gift, purchased form JustFab.com, a concierge service that matches up your favorite styles for a monthly suggestion box where you can purchase the latest fashions for really low prices. These bermuda shorts are from Rainbow sometime back. The light denim wash complimented the bright orange perfectly for a nice spring/summer ensemble. The two were then paired with this statement piece, also from Forever 21.

My last night in town,I decided to be a bit less conservative than I normally am, while still maintaining some class in my club outfit. This scuba texture assymetircal mini dress is from Forever 21+. I've only worn in once, and it fit even better the 2nd time. The blank black canvas allowed for a lot of nice gold accents, including this chunky bangle I also got from Charlottee Russe. This lightweight sheer cardigan from Hautelife plus helped me to tone down t conserve the curve, while I still showed some leg. It was my perfect blend of sexy and safe!
My weekend in Atlanta was one that allowed me to dust off some old items in my closet and put some things together that my normal environment may not allow. That's what vacation is for right?!

OOTD: Wrap Skirts and Wild Hair

Good afternoon fashionistas in faith! The focus of today's outfit is this wrap skirt I purchased online from Charlotte Russe. They recently launched a plus sized line and this was the first item I've worn from it. And what a time for it. For me, Charlotte Russe is known for their trendy jewelry sales as well as their fabulous shoe selection. The store is never short of sales that are kind to the your pockets. I actually started shopping at Charlotte Russe when I was in my undergrad at Penn State. It was the best place to find a quick club night outfit for the LOW LOW. Their straight sized clothing actually worked for me as well, but I'm happy that as of March 9th, I don't have to look too hard through the racks for a Large or XL.
The collection is available in 1X-3X sizes, with jeans and pants in sizes 16-24. Oh happy day!
The wrapped asymmetrical skirt comes in pink and blue. I chose the pink for a softer feminine look, but I was eyeing the blue also. They have a great selection of skirts that aren't too short, but can also be work for a less modest look when paired with the right items. This skirt was lots of fun, and the slip underneath had a fantastic material that made any shape wear unnecessary. And anytime I can go out sans shape wear, I am a HAPPY girl!

I pulled everything together with some items you've seen before, but also with these caged heels I got from none other than Payless! I almost feel like it isn't a surprise to say that anymore because Payless' glo up is REAL! They've really become a place for trendy items timeless pieces. These Christian Siriano heels came in this nude/beige as well as black. What I loved about them was they slip on option. By that I mean the easy access in which I could just zip them down and slide them off. There is also the option to lace them up in the front. The heel was a smaller 4 inches, also allowing me to leave the flats at home for the day. No sore feet here.
I love that our favorite retailers are keeping up with the times. Whether that means clothing or shoes for all demographics, I'm definitely happy that I can shop in more places than I was before. What a time to be alive!

OOTD: Detailed Skirts

Good evening all! As the warmer weather approaches, I've pulled out some of my favorite skirts from the past few years. I'm not much of a dress wearer (unless in special occasions), but skirts allow me to dress up or down, while still bringing a feminine allure to any outfit. This particular skirt is from a few years ago at Forever 21+. It features some tribal yellow print details, and some slits on each side that reach up to the thigh area. The skirt features an elastic waist, which makes tucking a shirt in really easy and seamless. I paired it with my distressed jeans jacket, also Forever 21+. My fringed purse is from H&M, and I finished it off with my chunky heel from Charlotte Russe for an ultimate boho chic Sunday look.

You'll be seeing plenty of skirts from me in the weeks to come. Let me know what your preference is. Long? Shirt? Mini? Maxi? I love hearing from you!

Casual Friday: Sweats and Errands

Besides my trusty ACER laptop, this evening I'm armed with some orange juice,NyQuil, and a word to battle against this sinus infection that's attacking my eyes and ears! Being sick sucks, but the fabulous must continue to slay. I can do all things though Christ who gives me strength. And today,I had a slew of doctor's appointments to get myself together. And it wouldn't be a sick day if I didn't do it in sweats! Today's outfit featured all of my comfy cozy items "thrown" together to create this easy, yet not so breezy (chest cold beware) ensemble.

I got this sweater on clearance at Target. You know those racks as soon as you walk in the store? The ones that whisper "buy me"? Yeah those are the ones I frequent! Most of the items are on clearance,my 3rd favorite shopping word. The neck is a bit higher than the normal sweater, and the fabric has a very tight knit pattern, both things that I needed for my looming cold.

This leather jacket is one of my favorites and sadly,it will probably be the last time you all see it. If you haven't heard already, there's a big storm heading our way. And although it's warm,it's not warm enough for the likes of over a foot of snow. BURR! Either way,I scored this number from JC Penney's a few years back. Normally around the warmer summer months leading into the fall, they have outerwear GALORE for the low low! I couldn't have paid more than $25 for this number. The zipper isn't your run of the mill vertical up and down feature. This asymmetrical design makes for such cute layering! Im sad to see it go for the winter.
These H&M harem sweats made for the perfect lazy day. They offered just enough design for me to look put together, though I didn't feel that way. I'm just excited I could throw on sweat pants and run errands while still looking chic. It can be done ladies!

My matching pumps are from Charlotte Russe. They're not as tall as my usual stiletto wear,so they assisted in the lingering fatigue that won't quit.

Today's outfit reminded me of one important lesson:you look as good as you feel! And not to toot my own horn but,the easiness of this outfit paired with antibiotics and lots of liquids sure helped me feel my best. So by that logic, I must look good too!

Until next time
Brieana.

OOTD: Cool Color Combos

Happy Sunday! I hope you're enjoying the days after Christmas and the time you've spent with cousins you haven't seen in years and eating foods you'll be giving up in a few weeks.

Today I want to talk about amazing combinations. Items that are Perfect for one another.Things that you can't mention without their counterpart. Peanut  butter and jelly. Fish and chips. Cell phone and a charger. Wearing glasses and being smart. I'm not so sure about that last one but you get the point. Combinations can add pizzazz or add those finishing touches needed to make a meal or outfit great. One of my favorite color combos is gray and green. An olive or hunter green to be exact. There's something serene and relaxed about the two colors together that still scream sleek and sheek at the same time.

This long wool duster is from Forever 21+ a couple seasons back. And I promise it's not as itchy as it looks. I know dusters are in for the season, and while I love them, not all of them are as thick as I need them to be. I'm ALWAYS cold,so this sweater keeps me warm. The marled effect adds some extra color to the outfit.

This midi dress is also from Forever 21+. I got it in the summer and quickly learned it was more suited for the colder months. There's an additional lining inside of the dress that adds more warmth. During the hot and hazy summer, this was NOT BBQ attire. In the winter, the extra layer helped to create nice, clean lines and layers that kept me warm. The length was also a plus as it was kind of windy today.

If you couldn't tell already, I love a chunky heeled bootie. These ones from Charlotte Russe gave me the right amount of balance. My mom looks at me in shock every time I step out in something higher than 6 inches. It's my way of keeping the day exciting. High heels, higher standards. The suede material may not be the best when the snow starts to fall,so I'm wearing them before that time comes.

Last but not least, let's talk about this  eye candy around my neck. This necklace is a unique and handmade creation from a local store owner here in the Poconos. She'll get her own post soon, but check out her Facebook page here. The intricate design (check out those leaves!) was just what I needed to add some excitement to the otherwise quiet ensemble.

What are some of your favorite color combinations? Leave a comment below!

Faithfully,
Brieana.
