ME?Toxic?

When I'm recording my weekly radio show (insert SHAMELESS plug here: It goes by the same name as this blog, Faithandfashion360 Live on WFNKRadio.com, Sundays from 7pm-9pm. Here's the link.), I usually peruse the social media airwaves and timelines for the things people are talking about, the things they may divided on, as well as the things that just need some JESUS. My sites of choice are typically fashion forward, millenial friendly, etc.

I was scrolling down Instagram the other day and I found a post on one of my sites of choice (one that sometimes I'm almost ashamed to say), and I saw a post that had me pleasantly surprised. TheShadeRoom, the place you love to hate, for its constant celeb post and infinite shade, posted a thought provoking question that forced me into a few minutes of self-awareness. It was so much so that here I am, writing to you about it, and eventually asking you to think about as well;

What is a toxic trait that you possess and would like to work on getting rid of in 2019??

Whoa.
1st of all, I felt personally attacked. They asked assuming that I would even have any! *insert fake disgust*

This question spoke to me in a number of ways and there was a wave of emotions and feelings that swept over me as I thought about an answer.

The fact of the matter is, we all have some things that aren't so great about us. We all have traits that have caused an argument. Things about us that people rightfully don't like. Parts of ourselves that, if we're honest, can stand to hit the trash. It was difficult for me to say out loud, but once I got real with myself, I could name a few.

Moment of transparency: I have a spending problem. I mean a forgo-my-car-note kind of problem. It's something I've realized over the years, especially as I've grown my blogging and fashion brand. There were times where I would even make justifications and excuses about why spending money on the latest shoes were necessary.

"My followers need these looks."
"I have a 10 day grace period."
"How can I grow my brand if I don't invest?"

We've gotten very used to justifying our nonsense in this day and age. The world tells us that we are a work in progress, and arms us with resources to halfway fix ourselves for their monetary gain.

We have become so very good at justifying our bad behavior, even our sinful behavior. In reality, we can justify just about anything in our lives to help relieve the pressure of the Holy Spirit bringing things to light for us to deal with them before Him in humility and self-sacrifice.

The problem with this behavior is, we never quite get around to the issue because we've adopted this really nice pair of rose-colored glasses (or shoes) that are blocking us from seeing our wrongdoing, and eventually getting down to the good things we can be. By not acknowledging that there's a problem...it's almost like it isn't happening?

I'll share a secret with you: God loves imperfect people.

That's right I said it. He loves all of your binge-spending, binge-eating, eye-rolling, nay-saying, negative speaking ways. We all make mistakes. We will unfortunately (and fortunately depending on how you see i) continue to do so. But because Jesus died and rose from the grave, every mistake we will make or ever make has been paid in full. Don't allow ego and pride keep you from receiving God's love any longer. Don't allow blinders to keep you from acknowledging your sin and moving forward  with God and receive His love and mercy.

I task you today to think about something you could do differently. I then task you to consistently pray and ask God to remove that from every part of yourself. Then, I want you to forgive yourself and do better. Who knows what's on the other side of your awareness? Salvation?Success?

Sounds like a win  to me.

Faithfully,
Brieana

Things I Learned in 2018

Unfortunately for a lot of us, the year 2018 was written off as a total loss, a fail, a meme depicting infinite sorrow, etc. I saw status and quote after quote about re-inventing the wheel of life in 2019,entering anew and refreshed for all of the visions and goals that slipped from our fingertips down the drain in the grueling months of 2018 past.

Personally, I disagree.

Romans 5:3-5 talks to us about glorifying even in our sufferings, for this produces perseverance and motivation even through the storm. During these times, we're able to truly see the glory of God outside of what WE want, but what HE knows we need for our lives. It's easy to pray, dance, and shout when you got that rent check in the nick of time, but what about when things look a little darker?

No worries, I've gotten some totally relate-able moments I had in 2018, and why you shouldn't look at the past 365 days as a reason to start over, but an opportunity to keep it pushing.

1. People will let you down.
For all of my faithshionistas (do we like it?) that don't know me personally, I got married this year. It was fabulous and everything I could have ever dreamed. Getting a group of reliable people together to ensure that I didn't pull out all of my hair was...pretty difficult to say the least. I learned the hard way that not everyone will be happy for the milestones in your life. I also learned the objective way that not everyone is in a position, mentally, physically, or all of the above, to be there. When I took a moment to speak to God through my anger an disappointment, I was amazed at how he opened my eyes to putting myself in someone else's shoes. It made for a less stressful year, and an easier time meeting people where they were at. #goGod

2. Thing don't always go how you plan.

If you haven't been here for a while, you'll know that my OCD, Type-A behavior truly knows no bounds. This year, I became increasingly aware that my plans just DON'T always cut it. And when I tell you that God is hilarious and comical in reminding us that, you have no idea. I'm talking wedding venue payment plans, savings goals, dress ideas, centerpiece plans, THE WORKS! The thing is, no matter how much you plan, there's always going to be something that doesn't go the way you want it to, for a few reasons;
1-You didn't place God at the center and he's the ONLY one capable of executing perfection.
2-  Sometimes you just have to sit back and appreciate the moment for what it is-- a milestone, a win, a VIBE!

3. YOU are your worst enemy.

Some obstacles that we deal with aren’t even real because we have let our fears, worries, or lies from others keep us paralyzed from dealing with obstacles. Many times the key to overcoming a major obstacle is to first deal with what we allow our minds to focus on and realign our thinking to be on par with the Word of God. I'm ashamed to say that some of 2018 goals I set became a little scary to me as the months started to dwindle in the year. I got scared. I didn't feel ready. And I didn't do them. My biggest regret of 2018 was not that the year was 'tew much", but that I allowed the path ahead of me be so big that I curled up in the fetal position instead of throwing on my gear and getting down to business. These goals have since transferred over to "Bella's Back 2019" goals, but you get the point.

The funny thing about scars are that they heal. Slipping, falling, and stumbling are just a part of the process to being your best. Nothing good comes easy, and I learned that in all of the 'easy' ways in 2018. So my pray for you is that wherever you are, you allow the tests of today be your testimonies of tomorrow. After all, what's a harvest without rain?

Happy New Year! Here's to 2019.

OOTD: Corporate Sunday

The dress code at my job is business casual .I've always though that to be one of the most ambigious terms within the workplace that I've ever come upon. My first question is always.. "what does that even mean?" I say that because sometimes I feel business...most of the time I feel casual. And if I casual decide to throw on a pair of flip flops with these khaki pants...am I wrong? This was the conversation running through my head as I threw this outfit together, because in an alternate world, I would wear something like this to work. Putting the cropped top and lightly tapered woven pant together created a "casual" work look, along with the dramatic cat frame that screamed, "How can I help you today?" in the most corporate way possible.

My textured crop top is form Forever 21+. I got in during a really big clearance sale for about $10. What's funny is, the model in the picture had it paired with these navy blue linen pants (also on clearance!). So I guess you could say Forever 21 provided a little Sunday outfit inspo for me. I paired the rather straight-up look with some dramatic accessories, including these frames (prescription not included) from Charlotte Russe. That's our little secret. Everyone I saw yesterday thought I bought a new pair of glasses.

My corpoate not-so-fancy Sunday look rose a really big question for me; what's acceptable as "business casual?" I think there's a post coming soon .

Faithfully,
Brieana
Just another thickums rocking a crop top ;)

Working Woman Wednesday: Meet the Curvy Girl Fever Ambassadors

In a world of ever-changing technology and a growing social media platform, entrepeneurs and the like are able to build and maintain a presence with something as simple as picture, 30 second video, or even a hashtag. These items have made doing what you love and walking i your purpose easy with a few late nights and inspired epiphanies. Social media is literally helping so many of us achieve our goals.

#GOALS. I've seen this hashtag float around in many ways across my social media accounts. Normally, I find it attached to a sweet picture of a happily dating or married couple, or to the latest video vixen with a perfect V and killer abs (all white maintaining a butt...jealous). Some of us peruse this hashtag, as well as many others, gazing at where and what they wish they could be. Others of us have decided to take a bit of a different route, and be our own biggest fan.

Insert, CurvyGirlFever, a movement created for those of us who want to create our own personal meaning of loving ourselves, with ten moons of confidence in tow.

OOTD: Wrap Skirts and Wild Hair

Good afternoon fashionistas in faith! The focus of today's outfit is this wrap skirt I purchased online from Charlotte Russe. They recently launched a plus sized line and this was the first item I've worn from it. And what a time for it. For me, Charlotte Russe is known for their trendy jewelry sales as well as their fabulous shoe selection. The store is never short of sales that are kind to the your pockets. I actually started shopping at Charlotte Russe when I was in my undergrad at Penn State. It was the best place to find a quick club night outfit for the LOW LOW. Their straight sized clothing actually worked for me as well, but I'm happy that as of March 9th, I don't have to look too hard through the racks for a Large or XL.
The collection is available in 1X-3X sizes, with jeans and pants in sizes 16-24. Oh happy day!
The wrapped asymmetrical skirt comes in pink and blue. I chose the pink for a softer feminine look, but I was eyeing the blue also. They have a great selection of skirts that aren't too short, but can also be work for a less modest look when paired with the right items. This skirt was lots of fun, and the slip underneath had a fantastic material that made any shape wear unnecessary. And anytime I can go out sans shape wear, I am a HAPPY girl!

I pulled everything together with some items you've seen before, but also with these caged heels I got from none other than Payless! I almost feel like it isn't a surprise to say that anymore because Payless' glo up is REAL! They've really become a place for trendy items timeless pieces. These Christian Siriano heels came in this nude/beige as well as black. What I loved about them was they slip on option. By that I mean the easy access in which I could just zip them down and slide them off. There is also the option to lace them up in the front. The heel was a smaller 4 inches, also allowing me to leave the flats at home for the day. No sore feet here.
I love that our favorite retailers are keeping up with the times. Whether that means clothing or shoes for all demographics, I'm definitely happy that I can shop in more places than I was before. What a time to be alive!

Don't forget to leave a comment and please, please, PLEASE don't forget to subscribe to the blog. I love hearing from you!

Working Woman Wednesday: The Faces of Lehigh Valley Fashion Week

Several weeks ago, I participated in what was one of the most time-turning and unique experiences of my 25 years; I participated and walked as a curvy model for my first time EVER in a fashion show. When I began my blog in December of 2015, I did it moreso to spread the seeds of confidence God has planted in me to embrace ALL of me as he should have it, according to His glory. I prayed to God to allow me to bear the fruit of His spirit in putting me in positions of prosperity and networking if He saw fit. I never imagined the doors this blog would open for me, in terms of feeling great about me, as well as meeting others who feel great about themselves and were likeminded in spreading messages of self-love and self-worth.

Fast forward not even 4 months later, and the connections I have made have made allof the 'what if's', 'I don't think I can's', and the occasional 'why did I take this on' seem a thing of the distant past. Lehigh Valley Fashion Week was not only a premiere event within the Valley to showcase unique and fine fashions of local business owners, it was also an opportunity for myself and many others to see 1st hand that IT IS POSSIBLE. In our whirlwind lives, we can prevail. And it may not be in the way that the woman beside us did it, but it will be as He saw it.

Three testaments to that were the powers that be of Lehigh Valley Fashioin Week. I had a chance to chat with Cyrie Jackson, Winsome Cullen, and Kari Holmes after  the excitement had subsided (if only for a little bit) to speak to them about what their successes, struggles, and takeways have been while being involved in Lehigh Valley Fashion Week. And like most of us women, its what you would expect; lots of juggling, some doors slammed in your face, and the will to carry on--
despite the rain.

1. What is your personal tie to fashion (or your specific title within the event)?

Cyrie: I am the founder and creative director.
Kari: My personal tie to Lehigh Valley Fashion Week is being the Fashion Director for Lehigh Valley Fashion Week. Miss Jackson and I partnered together for a series of successful community events. I really enjoyed working with her and when I got the call inviting me to be the Fashion Director I was super elated to be working with her.
Kari MC'ing the Premiere event
Winsome: I am the marketing and Public Relations director.  I was always involved in the retail world  in some way throughout  my life. The opportunity to  be a part of Lehigh Valley Fashioin Week was a dream come true to help this organization gain visibility in the area and beyond.

 2. What struggles were you met with in making sure the event went off?
Cyrie: Getting the brand out and bringing people from various backgrounds together.
Cyrie Jackson
Kari: The same you would probably find in any major production: managing relationships and learning how to work together as a team. Each person that is a part of the Lehigh Valley Fashion Week team has really big personalities, ( I'm a super huge people person and have a huge vivacious personality myself, so you know I fit right in lol), and each of the team members are very professional and some of the best in their field. You have to be secure and strong while also giving respect to other people. So the most important thing was making sure to respect each person's roles and their way of doing things, but also knowing that I had something to contribute as a part of the team as a creative professional myself. One of the best examples of this was in communicating with the designers. Miss Jackson already has established relationships with each of the designers because she's already known as a leader in the fashion industry here in the Lehigh Valley and Tri-State region PA / NJ / NY. To be a new name and a new voice communicating with the designers required a lot of determination. The great part about having a professional and well experienced team is that they could give a platform for how to communicate with the designers and I could also add some additional tools and templates to create the optimum experience for each of the designers to really feel like a special part of Lehigh Valley Fashion Week again this year.
Kari, doubling as a model on the finale night.
Winsome: Since I deal with marketing I am not directly involved in the production of the show.

 3. How did you balance the additional roles you took on with your personal life?
Cyrie: That was a tough one. Time management was so important. We all have to set time aside for the business and then have peace of mind by enjoying our personal lives. I meditate a lot and then the balance of personal and business just works its self out.
Winsome Cullen

Kari: Child, you remember what MC Hammer said? You got to pray just to make it today. Haha! Seriously, every day in our lives is a new day in our divine Destiny. There is something that God has given you breath for to accomplish in each and every day. So taking the time to pray and read His word so you know what He's likely to say and where He's likely to lead you and reading His word  to let you know what you're supposed to do when you get there. There was no way I was going to check my faith at the door to be a part of a new industry that I had never really stepped into before. I considered being apart of Lehigh Valley Fashion Week as an open door from God. So, I prayed each step of the way and asked Him how I could be a blessing to the lives of others and especially Miss Jackson because I know what it is like to be a founder, visionary, and leader, and how much work it takes to make something major happen in the Lehigh Valley area. I think because of that, our friendship has grown so much. Prayer and reading the Word and listening to the spirit of God were the key ingredients to balancing everything
Welcome baby Quentin!
Winsome: I recently  gave birth to my baby so I  do most of my work from home.  During  fashion week I brought my  little one with me.

 4. What have you learned from this experience?
Cyrie: I learned that planning way in advance helps a whole lot but also learned that me and the team have super strength to put on a show with just a snap of a finger. Not a lot of people can pull off what we have and still have more positive feedback than negative.
Kari: As a pastor and person of faith who absolutely loves fashion, seeing that God will use you in every area of life, in any profession, and on any platform was the biggest lesson reiterated for me.
Winsome: Nothing is impossible and God will make a way through difficult times.

Nothing is impossible indeed. I truly enjoyed seeing these women in action and getting to be apart of the fabulous production that was LVFW. I am even more overjoyed that I got to do so at the hands and prayers of such powerful and productive women. So today, I dedicate this #WCW to these 3 working visionaries. And today, I dub thee: Working Woman Wednesday.

Don't forget to subscribe to my blog and leave a comment below about a fabulous woman who's inspired you. I love hearing from you!

Faithfully.

Be Careful what You Ask for.

We've all heard our wise Pastors and Deacons say it. "When you ask God for something, don't expect it right away. Be patient. God's timing is perfect." Growing up in an era of social media and everything that's fed to us in a "live" format, we've become so used to getting things at what I call a "microwave" speed. The Bible says many things about being patient and standing firm in the Lord's promises for you, even when it doesn't seem like your prayers (and let's be frank) wishes are being "honored" by Him.

Acts 1:7  He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.

Lamentations 3:25-26  The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him,  to the one who seeks him; it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord

More seasoned Christians, or better yet, those of us who have prayed and fasted for the patience and loyalty God desires of us, have experienced the waiting period, and the ultimate receiving of what we have prayed for. One thing we don't normally prepare outselves for is getting what we ask for. How many of us are prepared? And are you fully at a point to receive what you have so fervently asked the Lord for?

This sentiment has rung true for me for almost 2 years. Yes two WHOLE years. I started out in my currnt place of worship, Faith International Church of Bushkill, Pennsylvania, as an "attender-- coming to services, clapping along with the praise and worship portion of service, "ooohing" and "aahing"  at the special ministry performances, and leaving an hour and a half later, apart of the conversation on how blessed the service was.  Also in my mind? "I'm tired of sitting." So from that time, I prayed to the Lord to reveal to me where in the church he wanted me to be, and to help me find the courage to do what he saw fit for me wholy and consistently.

That was not as easy done as I thought.

On my path to becoming a passionate doer, I was met with almost every obstacle one could imagine. Bad timing. No room. Not being a good fit. No answer AT ALL. It was frustrating. It was a test if my faith. And it gave me time to really affirm that this was what I was looking for.

And then it happened....

One ministry after another  started to cross my path. My excitement eradicated the word "no" from my vocabulary, as I took on one hat after another, so much so that I haven't considered myself an attender in almost a year.

More often than not, there have been times where i'm overjoyed at the idea of being someone that immerses myself so deeply into my place of worship. I enjoy being a committed servant for a number of reasons. The lessons I've learned about my walk with the Lord and the golden nuggests of truth I've walked away with in regards to myself as a person and a leader have been  insurmountable. I thank God daily for the opportunities and the will to excel in all areas. ON THE OTHER HAND, a girl can get a little tired! And its the times when I get tired that I say to God, "I know I said I wanted to serve, but I didn't mean ALL LAT!" Why do we do this? Isn't that what I asked for? And did I really expect anything halfway from God?

Patience and waiting is an important (and fulfilling) part of a successful walk with the Lord.  But equally important is the ability to know that God's timing and plan for you is so perfect that he knows just what you need, how much you need, and when you need it. My question for you is: Are you ready?

Faithfully,
Brieana

#WCW: The Importance of Sisterhood in Christ

On this wonderful WCW (also affectionately known as Woman Crush Wednesday in social media land),I want to reflect on the relationships I was able to build (and leave behind in 2015. When you're new to a place,or rather unfamiliar, it's difficult for our flesh to look away from past experiences in hopes of a better today. It's easy to look in the mirror and lament over the scars and cuts we've received from trusting someone too freely or giving information too willingly. Sometimes,we make the mistakes of forming relationships that aren't in line with our journeys. It's important though to remember the rhyme, reason, and season of some of those relationships and allow ourselves to be open to increase. This past Sunday,I was invited to be apart of my sister in Christ's birthday celebration. Through my time of praise and servitude at Faith International Church  I have been fortunate to meet some amazing
THE BIRTHDAY GIRL!

and fierce women of God. The importance of sisterhood was something I didn't think much of up until some years ago. The word sisterhood almost literally means covered in love by the family of God. I was almost sad that I hadn't realized the importance of this sooner. Women are not typically synonymous with sisterhood am I right? More so relative to the words "catty" or "gossip". I brought those worldly notions into church with me and thus welcomed some uncomfortable thoughts and feelings bred by notions of what someone else said i should be as a woman. The idea that a Christian woman must fit the mold of a perfect Bible toting, 10 inch skirt wearing being has for generations drawn our sisters out of church for not being able to live up to the unspoken expectations

Women,by nature are the breeders. We breed children. We can breed positivity and alternatively negativity.  Once we as women are able to accept the vessels of growth that we are, the sisterhood we are intrinsically built to form will follow. Here's 5 ways that I've become a better sister this year.

1. Be Generous (2 Corinthians 9:11)
2. Be quick to hear (James 1:19)
3. Seek forgiveness (Colossians 3:13)
4. Tell the truth (Ephesians 4:25)
5. Pray for them. (James 5:16)

Are you a good sister in Christ? If the answer is no,think about how you can be better. It's never too late to be a blessing to others. Your sister is waiting.

Faithfully,
Brieana.

Comparison is the Thief of Joy

When I was about 10 years old,I noticed something about myself;I'd always been pretty tall for my age. Me and one of my sisters were always the Glamazon queens in elementary school and throughout. And it would ALWAYS bother me.My peers could say something as little as "Oh but you're tall, so you don't have the problem." In my head I'd be like, "I have problems!" I wanted to empathize with my shorter counterparts.I would even dread the check ups at the doctor and close my ears to the sounds of me growing another half inch.  In school pictures, we were always in the middle to back row, normally reserved for the pubescent boys. For years,I would ever so slightly hunch my back when I walked or slouch in my seat .It made me look shorter, and thus more girly and feminine because height was something I typically associated with masculinity (as illogical as that sounds).I was usually seen as one of the guys as my shorter my girly looking female counterparts etched hearts on their notebooks and made MASH games of the popular guys in our class(talk about a throwback). That could never be me! I would look others in this adolescent envy because I wanted to be like them and live the life they lived. But because I was tall AND plus sized, that could never be.Fast forward 10 or so years later, that growth spurt has slowed down and my height has actually come into some very good uses. Can't reach that shelf?I GOT THIS! Does my 5'6 frame work perfectly to model those shoes?!Why of course! There were so many great things about being taller that I had never stopped to think about. And it wasn't until I stopped looking at the qualities and characteristics that I didn't have that I was able to focus on my God given assets.

It's taken me some time to learn that what God has carved for another, will not also be for me. I mean I can seriously look at the lives of others around me and think 'what am I doing wrong?" But I also found that in praying for the discernment I need to take me on MY journey, that someone else's path may have also been constructed with battles of their own. To compare someones bank account or businesses or relationships with that of your own is allowing the enemy to steal the joy that is yours. Suppose the young lady who has her own apartment and has the flyest gear has done so in a way that is not of God? Would you want it then?

In moving in decency and in order on God's path for ME,I have learned several things.

1. Count your own blessings and not the blessings of someone else- 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

2. Don't fall prey to feelings of envy-Proverbs 14:30

3. Look to the Word for your next steps, not your friends (at any stage in your life)- Romans 12:2

Comparisons are misleading. They allow us only to see what we want to see in the context of what we want at the moment. But if we continue to hold fast and true to our teachings,we will soon understand that no two men are made the same. My Chapter 1 will not be the same as my mother's Chapter 20.In other words, the middle of someone's journey will not look the same as the beginning of your own. But that's not for you to ponder or fret about.  Each of us has to endure different battles. Just remember to give God your all in everything. And it will be well.

Faithfully

I loved them so much I got a pair in each color the boutique carried. Look at the detail on the purple snake skin pair.*swoon* I'm seeing a vision of all white for the red pair. Stay tuned.

The C. Label heeled boots are the perfect winter wear for the season. Equipped with a rubber some, these babies make it easy to navigate the snow, and they manage to keep your feet warm at the same time. Never one to skimp on the glamorous accents, I couldn't keep my eyes off of the chain around the ankle. I've dressed them up and dressed them down. Perfection!

Next up we have the Marilyn Moda Military/chic inspired boots.  These boots are my go-to when I need to run errands and just be casual for the day. With an easy in an out due to the side zipper, these boots are great for the on-the-go mom looking to stay fashionable.

The Caliente thigh high boots are true to their name. They're truly hot, hot, hot! The zipper detail is unique,as it wraps around the boot in a diagonal pattern. They're perfect for the larger calves and wider foot,as the material is a nice stretch. Also perfect for the winter!

And calling all of my purse lovers! The Leona tote and many other beautiful additions just arrived at Step N' out on Faith Shoe Salon and are waiting to be claimed. The Leona Tote is a deep gray with an even deeper space for your knick knacks. And as if that wasn't already amazing,it also features an additional small handbag! Almost like a 2 for 1! I'm in love.

Step N' Out on Faith Shoe Salon is located at 534 Main Street in Stroudsburg,Pennsylvania  Being that we live in such a small area,it's our own fashion central in the Poconos! Visit them today and tell them I sen you!
